To me, fashion has always been this captivating force of inspiration allowing individuals to express themselves without having to say a single word. Being a shopaholic with way too much spare time on her hands, most of my free time is spent ~~memorizing~~ reading fashion magazines, scouting fashion blogs for the latest trends and dreaming of, one day, owning my own shopping mall :P All this overflowing “adventures” I have eventually motivated me to open up my own little blog shop, Glamouree, where I hope to inspire individuals with what inspires me. The shop features dresses, tops, accessories and handmade items all handpicked by me with love <3

We love her enthusiasm and passion in fashion no? :) Updates are expected every Friday with mini splashes of updates in between.

Capes: Hero or Zero?

It's hard to distinguish between true style and just another trend. Fashion is a form of art -it is subjective and open to debate. To each their own style -you can be chic, punk or even Bohemian chic. But every now and then, all these styles meet up and a new trend is born.

Trends are usually sparked by celebrities strutting them on the streets where the public eye is watching their every step. So what is the current trend of the season?

Capes.

If you were wondering my reaction when I heard the news, it was like this: o.O

When I thought of capes, one thing usually comes to mind:

Is it really practical? Can this trend really work? Or will it be cast aside a few months later along with the wide-legged bell bottoms and big hair? I first had an encounter with this trend when I was watching Kimora: Life in the Fab Lane. Kimora was expanding her business into England and she needed to know what was the trend there.

And yes, you guessed it. Capes.

I had a wild guess that this trend originated from there.

Well, I have to admit. These capes do add that allure and elegant touch to the overall look. As for the practicality of this trend, especially in the humid weather in Malaysia? Well, we might have to rethink twice about that.

We highly doubt that this trend will be able to find its way into our closet here in the South East Asia, but it is a good-to-know tip if anyone has any plans to go abroad this fall!

Capes, work it like a trench coat. Our tip is to keep the tones neutral and close to earthy tones. Since the trench-cape is so dramatic already, there is hardly any need for accessories.

1. Firstly, could you guys introduce yourselves?

MOOTS (VOX), JD (GUITARS/VOX), RUDY (DRUMS), AJ (BASS), UNO (TURNTABLES)

2. How did you guys come up with the name ‘Pop Shuvit’?

Pop Shuvit is basically a skateboarding trick also known as a kick flip 360 where you flip the board under your feet and it does a 360 flip.

3. How did you guys come as a band?

The band has been together for 10 years now but have known each other for more than 15 years since our high school dayz. We each started out in the music industry with various bands and groups till we got together and started pop shuvit and have been a solid unit ever since.

4. Who are your main music influences? Both local and international.

Our main influences are each other as we bounce of creatively from one another. Internationally it would have to be Rage Against The Machine.

5. What are your thoughts on the Malaysian music scene?

It is thriving and creatively we are really peaking right now. The quality of music has increased tenfold in the last 10 years and I’m amazed at the talent that we have in our home soil.

6. How do you guys find inspiration in writing your songs?

We draw inspiration from each other and what we have gone through over the years togetheras a band and as brothers

7. Among all the songs written, which would be your favourite? And why?

I guess a band favourite has to be Side Swipe from our sophomore album Here and Now. It was adeparture from standard rap rock flair and lyrically it was a very personal song written about relationships.

8. What is your most memorable performance to date?

The My chemical Romance Asian tour. Just to have been invited by the band to perform with them was an honor and getting to play in countires we have never been to was super cool.

9. What are you guys up to right now?

We are in the midst of finishing up our fifth studio album “CHERRY BLOSSOM LOVE AFFAIR” this will be our most perosnal album to date.

10 Describe your first album.

Raw, energentic with a pinch of sweetness. It was 9 years ago and we were all new to studios and songwriting. I would say a very fun album to make.

11 How do you guys feel when you see/hear your music on air?

Even if it’s the 1,000,000^th time it still puts a big smile on my face and I crank up the volume : )

12 How do you guys deal with all the screaming girls?

We scream back at them!!!

13 What are your long term and short term goals for the band?

Well we are in the medium term of our long term plan. Our production studio “2105 productions” is up and running. JD runs it together with AJ and we have produced for bands like bunkface, and estranged.

14 Where do you guys see yourselves in 5 years time?

15Some bands find it hard to live each other, if you guys were to live with each other, who would you think would have the most worse hygiene or living habits?

Living the dream and enjoying it! The journey ahs been one big rollercoaster ride of emotions!

17 So do you guys have trouble asking a girl out?

I think we’ve all matured to the point we ourselves know what we want in a girl so yea you can say we are confident enough to go get what we want.

18 Would you ever date a fan?

We try not to but if megan fox said she was a fan how can I say no to that!

19 How are your love lives now? Update us, like who is single and who is taken?

Rudy and AJ are married. Rudy has baby girl Eva “shuvit” Lestrai. Moots is also engaged. UNO and JD are still single and available!

20 Who influences your fashion?

We kinda like to wear what makes us feel comfortable not what we think is cool but the So-Cal skate scene is pretty much the major influence. Brands like Macbeth and nike endorse us as well.

21 What is your must have in clothing?

Moots has to have his fedora hats now that his spiky days are gone and Rudy can’t rock the drums if he doenst have his new era cap on!

22 Describe your fashion style.

Urban/Street wear.

23 What do you guys do during your free time?

Sleep!!! We spend so much time with music that sometimes its nice to just laze in bed over a DVD marathon!

24 Any tips to the budding bands hoping to make it?

Keep rocking it and don’t give up! It took us 10 years to get where we are at now and are still sriving for more!

If you read the recent reviews lately, there has been a lot of mention about the right skin tone and the right colored dresses. The question is, what skin tone category do you fall in? So here is a brief explanation about each skin season and you will find out what skin tone are you!

Winter

Undertones: blueish or pinkish

Skin color: Pale white, olive yellow, dark

Generally African Americans and Asians fall into this group

Tip: Opt for colors that are stark, sharp and clear to compliment your winter skin tone. Like in winter, you would like to wear bright colors to stand out of that white background. Same goes for garments! When wearing light colors, opt for icy tones instead of pastel colors, because you need something to match your undertone and not go against it.

Suggested colors: White, Black, Navy Blue, Red, Shocking Pink

Avoid: Subdued tones like beige, orange and gold.

Summer

Undertones: blueish or pinkish

Skin color: Pale and pink

Normally blondes or brunettes with pale eyes

Tip: Choose pastels with pastels and soft neutral with rose and blue undertones.

Suggested colors: Lavender, plum, rose brown, soft blue

Avoid: Black and Orange

Autumn

Undertones: Golden

Normally redheads and brunettes with golden brown eyes

Tip: Look for colors with a slight gold undertone to bring out that glimmer in your skin. But avoid colors with blue undertones.

Suggested colors: Camel, beige, orange, gold, dark brown

Avoid: Navy

Spring

Undertones: Golden

Skin color: Creamy white or peach

Generally people with straw or strawberry red colored hair, freckles, rosy cheeks or blue and green eyes.

Tip: Similar to Autumn, you should look for colors with a gold undertone with a darker tone. But avoid dark and dull colors.

Suggested colors: Camel, peach, golden yellow and golden brown

Avoid: Dark and dull colors.

NY Spring 2011: Farah Angsana

The designer with a Thai-Asian flair, Farah Angsana. And also designer of one of my favorite lines yet. She mixes western and eastern culture and gets a whole line with a lot of flavor! In general, she seems to favor the jewel tones and the gold color. She also puts a whole lot of emphasis on the right fit of the dress. And I simply love the Thai flair to the whole look! Gotta love that emerald green.

It is your typical dress, but we are impressed with the choice of fabric! A nice structured top and a nicer flowy dress. It gives the illusion of an eastern goddess! Like you are walking on air, yes?

How about turquoise blue?

The typical sexy short dress with that darling turquoise. It is perfect for that hot date you've been looking forward too, yes? Plus this dress works perfectly to show off that sexy legs.

Pale gold works good on fair skin. With a nice corset on the top and embellished bottom, it exudes that delicate femininity, yes?

Somehow, this looks a little Malay to me, no? That dress has that Ketupat patterned thing going on! The epitome of east meets west and ends up with the best! ;) Oh I just rhymed. Hehe.

The perfect sweet, sexy flirty dress for that prom! We like the fit of this dress on this model, and the length is good too! A little swan lake to relive that old childhood ballet recital, no?

This toga we simply love! A shade of black to bring us back to the dark side and that structured dress is simply to die for! What we look for is the best fit! Heck this dress is already so full of kick, any accessories would just get in the way!

Very Kebaya inspired, yes?

What do you think? Its kind of lacey and gives out that eastern Glam goddess vibe. A little off track from the traditional and conservative Kebaya we are used to. But hey, it has that awesome fit the Kebaya is best known for! Its Kebaya with extra sexy on top!

NY Spring 2011: Christian Siriano

The fabulous designer and Project Runway Winner himself, Christian Siriano.

Brief Biography here

Perhaps one of our favorite winner and youngest one yet, Christian Siriano. Don't underestimate this tiny wonder, he is packed full of style and gives the saying good things come in small packages a whole new definition. :] This season he is giving us a whole lot of metallics and hot colors. Our favorite part about his line is his beautifully structured dresses that packs with that rock star punch. All those rocker chics out there might want to take notes! ;)

Nice silhouette and interesting flow of the dress.

This dress reminds me of the dress Kimora almost wore to the Vogue party (refer to the reality series Kimora: Life in the Fab lane) but with a little more detail. We like the work with metallic here. Normally metallics are hard to pull off because it is just too glimmery and if the dress is not tailored right, it shows off all your unflattering curves! But the little trick Siriano pulled with the layering at the V neck was sheer genius -transforming a normal dress to a whole another level. It gives the dress a little more detail and helps balance out the metallic.

P.s. if you want to work that metallic, work with your skin tones. Fair skin should go with silver; think a little cold metallics to bring out that beautiful skin. Dark skin should go with gold; think warmer shade of metallics to enhance your toned skin. :]

Beautifully structured and very dramatic.

If ever was a dress that attracts attention like a magnet and metal, its this one. We love the puffy bottom with its gorgeous dramatic essence. It may be a little too much for some people, but it won't be Siriano if it isn't in-your-face. :]

Who doesn't need a nice leather jacket?

Leather jackets are normally associated with biker gangs and bad ass rockers. And gee whiz, this is sure bad ass gorgeous. In the 90's we'd rock that denim jacket, but now, we be rocking that leather! ;)

Can you say, oh-la-la? Tre angelic.

Its like sugar packed with a punch! Its soft texture gives out that dreamy feel whereas it hugs your curves and makes you looking a little more bootylicious with its draping.

Very reminiscent of a pageant beauty queen with her sash, no?

Though we quite disagree with this number, it may work for some people. We could very much do without the sash though, it looks like it was slapped on last minute out of impulsive thinking. It is a bit too pageanty for our taste. But nonetheless, rockstar style was never the contemporary taste isn't it?

Very mod, simplistic yet effective.

Very reminiscent of the Audrey Hepburn style, yes?

Perfect prom dress, yes?

A bit on the risqué side, but it works. Bond girl?

Yes we know that we mentioned that a good trench coat should fall just above the knee, but this we might make an exception. Though because of its length it might be less appropriate for a more formal function, it is nonetheless very rock star and oh-so bond girl. :] If you have the legs for it, work it girl!

A bit costume-y, but we love it!

Undoubtedly this is not a dress for the weak hearted, a bit too costume-y. But you can't deny the sheer breath-taking power this dress wields, no? Wear this with confidence and be careful to not drown in that fabulous haute couture!

The structure of this dress and the detailing is to die for.

Giving leather that extra sex appeal.

It is hard to pull of a full leather dress, what with the fiasco of the full denim back with J-T was with Britney. Everyone was a tad apprehensive about the head-to-toe in same fabric ever since. But this works, very classy. :]

Metallic and one sided dresses are definitely a plus!

Oh so rockstar!

Is it just me, or I can imagine Kirsten Stewart wearing this? We see very much of a vampire beauty here. :]

Christiano Siriano basically took a couple of huge risks, but managed to more than get by, and earned a couple of jaw droppers. Oh yeah rock star, we love! :]

NY Spring 2011: Ruffian

Brian Wolk and Claude Morais, designers of Ruffian

Well, if you want an in depth autobiography of the designers, you can visit here, or their official website. But we are here to talk about their line for Spring 2011. Out of all designers, they have caught our eye with their play with gold, clean white and their occasional splashes of sapphire blue and dirty green. In general, their look has a very sophisticated and regal air. They emphasized a lot on shoulder padding and the free flow of a skirt, and they seem to like the plunging V neckline a lot.

Glamorous gold trench coat.

You can see a whole lot of trench coats in the Ruffian line, mainly in the regal color gold. But this piece catches our eye with its soft shade of gold. We love how clean cut it is and notice how a good trench coat should never be too long or short, good tip that it falls just above your knee.

The deep sapphire blue is sure tantalizing, no? :]

Toned down, but still gold shirt dress.

A little baby doll dress inspired, but much more glamorous.

Who would have ever though that deep sapphire blue would be a good match to soft gold? Both are such strong colors. Then again, if you can pull it off, it gives you that regal look. The color palette in this line is limited, but the possibilities of looks done by these two designers are amazing. And we love how the draping top slims down the upper half of the body and the pencil like skirt slims the lower half. :]

Very simple, but we just love the 'clean'ness of this look.

We like the play of fabric here, looking a bit like snake and Alligator skin.

Very androgynous, yes? We like the play of fabric, though we are not quite sure what they used here. I can imagine celebrities like Angelina or Kirsten wearing these. It is edgy yet running on the high fashion side. Wowza! :]

Very professional, but laid back at the same time.

Simple and angelic, yet slim fitting and chic.

Perhaps our favorite dress in this whole line yet. Call me simplistic, but this dress is absolutely breath-taking. The free flowing skirt slims down your calves and gives you that angelic look. The plunging V neck adds a little more sex appeal and balancing out the sweetness and edge. Giving everyone the impression, 'yeah, I'm sweet, but I can still bite.'

New York Fashion Week: Spring 2011

What is New York Fashion Week you ask? Why, its something like the BIGGEST event in the fashion industry. :]

Fashion addicts will surely know that lately the New York Fashion Week has just come and almost gone. And my are the designers taking out the big guns this spring. With so many trends to spot and the stars to dazzle, you'd definitely be shot head over heels with those darling haute couture, no?

For those of us too busy to leave studies and work and unable to jet set glamorously across the seas to watch the fashion show unravel live before our very eyes, there is always the internet. :] This year New York Fashion Week changed venue into the state of the art Lincoln Center Damrosch Park and hosted by the ever glamorous Mercedes Benz. Who says the old Merc can only rock those four wheels aye?

From today onwards, Kleio will have daily updates on designers must watch. And perhaps, you might spot some trends yourself, aye? :]

More than just a pretty face

Often people would regard modelling as the easiest job and a fairy tale concept. I mean, all you have to do is look pretty and take a picture, no biggie right? If you are born with perfect features, good height and are slim enough, take the easy way out –model. Well, I guess that was pretty much the borderline difference that separates the normal models with the supermodels.

Supermodels like Tyra Banks and Heidi Klum are the new starlets and are now household names, wielding such wow power and became amongst the most bankable young ladies in the world. Rarely do you get an Asian to be in the same ranks as the Americans, but Amber Chia is definitely ready to defy the odds. And guess what? She is Malaysian too!

Her turning point was when she was crowned the winner of the internationally acclaimed brand –Guess. In 2005, she was deemed as the second sexiest next to Angelina Jolie in FHM’s Magazine’s 100 Sexiest Women. Often regarded by the Malaysians fondly as the Malaysian version of Tyra Banks, Ms Chia has also hosted model searches across the nation and has continuously encouraged and helps to promote the modelling industry in the conservative Malaysia. Amber is also the face of L’Oreal Paris Hair Makeup, Stila Makeup and of course, Guess.

Lately Amber has taken one step further and started a modelling academy in Jaya One. Classes started early this month, 1^st of September and have already taken in about 300 students. Nestled within the green and homey domain of Jaya One, the academy exudes the very essence of chic and stylish. It is believable that international models will graduate from this impressive academy.

With such acclaimed accomplishments, I would say I was surprised at how humble and down-to-earth Amber was when she greeted us for the interview. Although heavily pregnant, she was kind enough to make time to make it for our interview.

Ms Chia revealed that the main aim of the academy was to promote and cultivate the modelling career as an actual professional job. She mentioned that during one of her modelling jobs at the fashion shows done by Victoria Beckham in New York Fashion Week, many thought she had a very unique look –that being people thought she was Thai, Chinese and etc. She said that due to our racial harmony in Malaysia, our look has more or less evolved along with it and have mixed racial features.

She thinks that as Malaysian, we can use this to our advantage. She believes that Malaysians can be very good models and she wants to help motivate and cultivate young talents.

When she first started off at a young age of 17, she had no direction, she had no idea what she could do, what she shouldn’t do. Admittedly, she said it was rough. So she had hoped that this academy would save young models time, and pursue the right path.

Amber then proceeds to explain the courses offered in the academy. Courses such as Modelling Image is essentially a grooming and deportment course with an edge to enhance the way you look, walk, and dress to discover your inner beauty and transform your outlook. (Extract from the pamphlet) Modelling Image is perfect for those working women seeking for a cleaner cut and polish look when presenting oneself to the world.

Modelling Extreme is the course for those seeking to be the quintessential model, of which they will offer classes in picture taking, runway classes and all the other things needed to know to be a model and survive in the industry. A pair of 5inch heels will be included in the package upon registration, as it is hard to find 5inch heels in the market.

There are also Makeup courses (Makeup basic, Makeup Master and Makeup Revolution) which of course –sorry to point out the obvious- teaching makeup.

Coaches or as they call it, Guru’s will be hand-in-hand with Amber herself to coach and educate young talents. Best known as the ‘CatWalk Guru’, Benjamin Toong will also be there to teach the students how to strut their stuff. ‘He thought me everything I know, he is like a Malaysian Miss Jay.’ She added fondly when Benjamin came into the topic.

Changing the topic from the academy, we then catch up with Amber on her personal life, her views on fashion and how she started off. When she first started off as a girl from Tawau, Sabah, she knew she wanted to be a model.

As typical Malaysian parents are, her parents were concerned and protested against her will. Despite protests and disapproval, she went ahead. And now, her parents saw that she really was into this modelling thing, and provided her the love and support she needed. ‘My mom would keep every copy of magazines and newspapers I’m in,’ she laughs. Wow, that must be a lot of magazines and newspapers.

Her fashion tip would be, ‘Wear the outfit, and don’t let the outfit wear you.’ She feels that you have to have the confidence to work an outfit, regardless the brand or the price.

A confident girl would be able to pull off a potato sack –or so to speak, those American Next Top Model fans would know this well- and still look good. Amber also quoted the Chinese saying, ‘There is no ugly woman, only lazy ones’ She feels that if one can take the initiative to take care of themselves well, they will sure to shine. Take notes girls; this is coming from the Supermodel after all. :]

When talking about her love life, she is content and happy with her husband and is practically beaming when her pregnancy is mentioned. She said that she had to slow down in terms of work as the pregnancy rolls in. But it has opened her to new horizons, ‘I got to be in maternity related stuff, which is different as I normally get high fashion bookings.’ She added with a smile. Though she misses her ‘old figure’, she would jokingly bring up. But hey, I would say she still looks hot for someone pregnant. But the workaholic in her would always nudge her to work and work and work.

When the topic of her marriage with hubby Adrian Wong came about, she jokingly said that she wasn’t as young as she used to be, and the moment he popped up the question, she couldn’t have said ‘Yes’ quick enough. She didn’t want to be one of those although successful, but still single and unmarried.

She imagined a life with a family after her carrier. ‘He is a private person’ she adds with a laugh, but when you marry a supermodel, privacy kind of goes out the window and now he is a public figure.

Her future ventures include a Model Search for Canon later in the year and working on her academy, of which she hopes to have franchises across the nation in the future. She adds on a last note, that girls or guys who have dreams of becoming a model should be brave and come forward –because the industry is more favourable to younger models.

She recalls when she hosted the Ford Model search that two women of around the age of 36 and 37 came up to her and asked if they could participate, but their age was beyond limit. She feels that it was sad, because it was evident that they really wanted it badly, but alas it was out of her hands. So she advises everyone, given the passion –just go for it. Best opportunities come in the guises of competitions –after all, that was how a sweet, humble and down to earth girl like Xie Li Ping, became the internationally acclaimed Supermodel, Amber Chia. 1. Why the name Emcee Couture?

Basically I wanted something to sound like my initials “MC”, and the word couture in French means dressmaking/sewing. So it’s really as simple as me, doing the thing I love most!

2. When did Emcee Couture first open its doors to the public? (When did it start)

I started dressmaking and selling them in the blog about 4 years ago under the blog name buzz2bummerbee where I did some reselling too. However about a year ago, I decided that I wanted to really focus and have my own creating playground hence started a new line under a new name, Emcee couture.

3. What sets Emcee Couture aside from the other blogshops?

Well, I would definitely say the designs. Each and every piece is my creation and it is very exclusive because it is not mass-produced. Each design comes in 3-12 pieces only.(Unless there is a remaking on the item).So if you are worried about having clothes that everyone is wearing or if you like to stand out and be different from others, I suppose emcee couture is the place for you.

Secondly, as a petite myself, I find much difficulties in finding clothes that fit well. Hence, Emcee Couture also caters specifically for petites girls. Each piece is made to fit UK4 with height of more or less 150-156cm. I mean, sure Topshop and Miss Selfridge do have their own petite line of clothing, but never we can find anything that is as affordable as emceecouture, which brings us to the third point.

Emcee couture makes affordable clothings! Especially when you think of them being as exclusive as they are. I thought that it is possible to get fashion on a budget. Items from emceecouture ranges from RM 30-RM55.

4. Who designs/tailors/models the clothes being sold?

For both of the above... It is me who does the designing, drafting, sewing* and modelling, picture taking (with a self timer of coz) and updating the posts.

*at this point, sewing of samples of each design only as sewing is outsourced*

5. How many items have been sold so far? (how is the public response)

Not too bad I would say. I have a quite a number of regular customers while there is always new orders. My customers also come from different countries like Australia, the UK and USA. But I believe they are still a large number of petites out there that haven’t heard of Emcee Couture. And of course people who appreciate exclusive creations. I’d like to share my love for dressmaking with them.

6. What is the inspiration behind Emcee Couture?

I started off sewing because I felt that “I could totally make that” when I saw this lovely top selling for way too much the amount I’m willing to pay. And I always say I never make anything I never wear. I guess it is very much based on who I am and the things that I like.

As for the blog, it really started off wanting to share my passion with people. I was also curious on what would be people’s reaction to my creation. I guess a blog was the easiest and cheapest option around then and still is now.

7. Do you have plans to open a shop?

I think it would be one of my dreams to have a shop where it sells my creations under my own label. I will definitely love that, as to which extent it could be realised, it depends a lot on your support! =)

1. Can you give us a brief introduction about yourself?

2. Why tailor make the dresses when you can simply get ready made ones, isn’t it easier?

Not when the apparels do not fit you well as a petite.(I’m just so sick of wearing tubes underneath my dress because the arm hole are too huge and the neckline is showing half of my chest)

And knowing that less than a dozen people have this particular piece of creation. That’s the plus point of exclusive items isn’t it?

3. What is your fashion background?

Not much at all. I was never really trendy nor fashion savvy. I suppose a lot of people are surprised when they find out and did not expect that I could and would be doing this..But yeah, neither did I.

4. Besides managing the blogshop, what are you up to now?

I’m currently working full time as a Food Technologist.

5. Who would you like to credit for the success of Emcee Couture?

My mother, she is the reason why I sat in front of the sewing machine. She is also the person providing the technical knowledge, never bored of my fashion tale and dressmaking philosophy when sometimes none of those really make sense.

6. How do you manage between life and managing a blogshop? It’s a lot of work.

It seems that when you have passion for something, doesn’t seem much like work after all.
